WeatherBrains 108: Another Pioneer Guest

WeatherBrains Episode 108 is now online (February 19, 2008). This is THE netcast audio program for people who absolutely love everything weather.

Ray Boylan is our guest on this episode of Weather Brains. Ray got his training in the Navy – in fact, he picked his training because of location and a girl. And the weather and the girl are still with him. After 23 years in the military, he put in more than 2000 hours with the Hurricane Hunters including a flight into Camille. From there, he went to a station in Jacksonville and on to Charlotte. He covered Hurricane Hugo while in Charlotte when a radio station tower fell on their building.

Southern US Tornado Outbreak: A big topic of discussion for this episode was the tornado outbreak across parts of Alabama, Georgia, and Florida on Sunday, February 17.

Roundtable: JB discusses some interesting tornado facts. Brian rants about media coverage on the Prattville, AL, tornado, as well as damage assessment. And takes a swipe at spending money on outdoor sirens.

Mailbag: And our very own EMO, E-Mail Officer, Kevin Selle, dives into the mail bag, head first – NOT.

From The Weather Center:

WeatherBrains 101: You often here reference to the planetary boundary layer in meteorological discussions, but just what is it? And how tall is it? What are some of the characteristics that distinguish this layer from other parts of the troposphere? WeatherBrains 101 delves into topic with our typical enthusiasm!

This Week In Weather History: This week in history seems to mark a shift from winter weather to violent weather. The week of February 19 through 25 marks one of the largest tornado outbreaks referred to as the Enigma Outbreak. Bill Murray brings all of the details of this piece of weather history to the stage.

Listener SurveyListener Surveys: Okay, we’ve driven this topic into the ground, but we really do like to hear from you. Many thanks to everyone who has taken the time to fill out the Listener Survey. The survey takes just a minute or two to complete and provides us with an opportunity to learn where you are and hear your thoughts and comments on the show. Click here to take the survey.
