WeatherBrains 114: Super Outbreak Special

WeatherBrains Episode 114 is now online (March 31, 2008). This is THE netcast audio program for people who absolutely love everything weather.

April 3 and 4, 1974 was the single biggest day so far in US tornado history. And this episode of WeatherBrains brings together the biggest group of players who lived and worked through that event. The regular weather geeks are joined by Robert Ferry, Meteorologist in Charge of the Birmingham NWS office in 1974, Jay Shelley, a forecaster at Birmingham during that event, and Allen Pearson, Director of SELS, the precursor to the Storm Prediction Center (SPC), in 1974.

WeatherBrains 113: Focus on Snow and Flooding

WeatherBrains Episode 113 is now online (March 25, 2008). This is THE netcast audio program for people who absolutely love everything weather.

Caribou NWS answers their phone and we have a nice chat with LeeAnn Allegretto. Snow fall has surpassed the all time record there causing some interesting problems especially for drivers. LeeAnn notes that the snow removal has resulted in many road side signs becoming buried. Putting your mind around 186 inches is something that is hard to grasp.

And when was the last time there was much talk about flooding? Heavy rains over the central part of the country last week have swollen rivers like the Ohio and portions of the Mississippi River.
