WeatherBrains 89: What Got You into Weather?
WeatherBrains Episode 89 is now online (October 8, 2007). This is THE netcast audio program for people who love everything weather.
In this week’s Episode:
What Got You Started in Weather: James Spann, host of this episode of Weather Brains, poses the question, “How did each Weather Brains participant get started toward a career in weather?” And the answers are very interesting with somewhat of a common theme running through the answers. JB Elliott and James Spann also learned tonight that they were both listening to the same radio broadcast from WWL in New Orleans. The broadcast featured Nash Roberts as Camille was making landfall on the Mississippi coast in 1969, and JB and James didn’t even know each other then. Listen to find out what got Brian and Kevin started in weather, too.
Questions from Listeners:Â The Weather Brains crew is happy to hear from listeners and this week we respond to some of the mailbox items that have shown up in the queue. Hear questions and comments from Alabama and Salt Lake City. Plus what a great suggestion from a Tennessee listener for a great Christmas gift for Professor Peters – or is it really an insult?
Survey: Did you know the Weather Brains crew, as motley as they are, are really interested in your thoughts about the show? In fact, you can take a quick survey just by clicking on the link below or in the column to the right where it says, “Listener Survey.” We do value your opinions.
Commentary on being a Meteorologist: What does a television critic at an Atlanta newspaper know about being a meteorologist? Apparently he thinks he knows a lot because he bashes the profession – or at least that is the reaction from Kevin Selle.
From The Weather Center:
- WeatherBrains 101: After the discussion of thermodynamic diagrams last week, the illustrious professor delves into adiabats, both wet and dry. These are some of the funny lines on thermodynamic diagrams that describe how various parcels of air are likely to respond.
- This Week In Weather History: This week we remember hurricane forecast Grady Norton who established a great reputation as a superb forecaster. Back in 1886 a Texas town was hit by yet another hurricane and was never rebuilt. This week also featured the strongest typhoon ever measured on earth – at least by pressure. In 1608 the barometer inventor was born.
