WeatherBrains 88: A Review, Special Guest and the Wedge

WeatherBrains Episode 88 is now online (October 1, 2007). This is THE netcast audio program for people who love everything weather.

In this week’s Episode:

Josh Johnson, WXIASpecial Guest: A special guest joins the Weather Brains crew in this episode. Josh Johnson recently moved from Meridian, MS, and WTOK-TV to WXIA-TV in Atlanta. Both are on channel 11, but Josh jumped from market 186 to market 8 based on the ratings according to Nielsen Media Research. Hear about Josh’s job and what the weather competition is like in the big city of Atlanta.

The Wedge: Nearly every location has some kind of weather challenge. Atlanta is no different. Cold air damming, also called the Wedge, is a big challenge for this city at the southern end of the Apalachians. And several of the Weather Brains crew have some experience with this feature.

Motorola GMRS/FMS with SAMEA Weather Brains First:  The Weather Brains crew is happy to establish a new first for our netcast. In this episode we review a brand new radio useful in recreation but one that has some unique capability to keep you informed about the weather. To do the review, Brian actually got his hands on the new radios before they began shipping to retailers, so you’ll get some first hand notes on how these radios performed. And who knows what future reviews you might hear here.

Survey: Did you know the Weather Brains crew, as motley as they are, are really interested in your thoughts about the show? In fact, you can take a quick survey just by clicking on the link below or in the column to the right where it says, “Listener Survey.” We do value your opinions.

From The Weather Center:

  • Weather Brains 101WeatherBrains 101: Believe it or not, people have been using thermodynamic diagrams since the 1800s. There are actually three main diagrams in use around the world. In the United States, we use one called the Skew-T which sounds more like a rap group than a scientific diagram. Learn a bit more about these diagrams in this episode of Weather Brains 101.
  • TWIWHThis Week In Weather History: Did you know that a hurricane was overshadowed by coverage of the OJ trial and the verdict? How about the Great Chicago Fire of 1871 – maybe Mrs. O’Leary’s cow did not start it, but weather helped it along. And what city in California began 767 consecutive days without rain during this week? Hear about all of these and more with Bill Murray’s latest installment.
