April 8, 1998 was a big day for Central Alabama. The weather geeks at Weather Brains discuss the F5 tornado which killed 32 people in Jefferson County where Birmingham is located. This tornado was the strongest one since the Smithfield tornado of 1977. The guys discuss the tornado from the perspective of the media, both radio and television, as well as the National Weather Service.

Mailbag: And James Spann puts his hand into our mail bag to review feedback from listeners. Tough to do when you have an active week of weather.

From The Weather Center:

WeatherBrains 101: April 1, 1960, was a red letter day in weather history. We take satellite images for granted today, but on April 1, 1960, the launch of TIROS-1 proved the value of the view from space. The professor looks at the launch of TIROS, our very first weather satellite.

This Week in Weather History: Bill Murray brings up up-to-date on some of the weather for this coming week including what may have been the first hook echo.

Listener SurveyListener Surveys: Okay, we’ve driven this topic into the ground, but we really do like to hear from you. Many thanks to everyone who has taken the time to fill out the Listener Survey. The survey takes just a minute or two to complete and provides us with an opportunity to learn where you are and hear your thoughts and comments on the show. Click here to take the survey.
