Roger & Cary HillOur first guest this episode is Roger Hill with Silver Lining Tours, a storm chasing tour operation. Roger has a lot of experience having witnessed over 400 tornadoes in his 22-year career in storm chasing. Roger gives us a rundown on what a tour day is like and, like many meteorologists, it was a tornado in Topeka in 1966 that got his interest in weather piqued. Roger has also been one of the driving forces in the National Storm Chaser convention held in February each year.  To learn more about Chasercon 2010, the national stormchaser convention, click here.

Our second guest this week is Dr. Kris Wilson. He wrote an article about reporting climate change to the public.

Other discussions in this weekly podcast include topics like:

  • Snow devil in Wyoming
  • 2009 hurricane season quiet and has just ended
  • 13 percent of lower 48 covered by snow
  • 173 inches of snow at Truckee, CA
  • Steady snow in El Paso today
  • Iowa had an average snow of only a trace for November
  • and more!
  • Our E-Mail Officer, Mr. Selle, takes a peek into the mail bag this week. We’re always happy to get your notes especially from viewers far, far away like .

    From The Weather Center:

WeatherBrains 101: A request from a listener generates this week look at CAPE – hopefully where an 8-year-old with an interest in weather can understand it.

TWIWH: Bill Murray looks back at the week of December 1st. Bill looks at a football game in Birmingham that was eventually threatened by severe weather and a tornado warning.

Listener SurveyListener Surveys: Okay, we continue to drive this topic into the ground, but we really do like to hear from you. With all due respect Dr. Wilson, how could you not know about the leaked emails. Please read them and you will see that they circumvented all science 101 research, analysis etc… So any conclusion from the data is false.

    2. Chuck006 says:

I must agree with ronargo. If an academic researcher had not heard of the hacking and releasing of the emails by this past Monday, they are either living under a rock or the research community they are a part of just wants it to go away, so it is not even “water cooler talk”. Anyway great show. Roger Hill was a fantastic guest and thanks to Prof. Peters for the help explaining CAPE to my 8 year old.

For all the drama in Discovery Channel Storm Chasers it has been a great vehicle to help me work through my sons fear of tornadoes. We have managed to turn a real fear into a hood healthy respect for the storms.
