WeatherBrains - June 1, 2010Guest weather brains this week include Leslie Chapman-Henderson, who is President and CEO of the Federal Alliance for Safe Homes, Inc. FLASH is a non profit corporation founded in 1998 by a collaborative of non-profit private and public organizations dedicated to strengthening homes and safeguarding families from disaster. Ms. Chapman-Henderson and FLASH have championed the cause of code-plus construction methods through the creation of Blueprint for Safety, an education program for homebuilders, homeowners and design professionals on disaster resistant construction techniques. Ms. Chapman-Henerderon has been recognized by emergency management and state organizations for her civic and community work in public education.
And, also joining us this week is Dr. Gerry Bell, who works at the NOAA Climate Prediction Center in Camp Springs, MD. He has Bachelors degrees in Meteorology and Mathematics from the University of Illinois and his Masters and PhDs from the State University of New York at Albany. He has been published extensively. He is the Editor of the monthly Climate Diagnostics Bulletin. His extensive knowledge of climate factors affecting seasonal hurricane development led to the creation of NOAA’s seasonal hurricane predictions beginning in 1998. He is the Lead Scientist for NOAAA’s Long Range Hurricane Outlook Team. He won the Issac Klein Award from NOAA in 2005 for his work in this area.
