Not just one but two – guests, that is. We get a return guest and a new guest this week. And dueling authors at that. Dr. Thomas Schmidlin, Kent State University, discusses his book, Thunder in the Heartland. And we visit with Dick Goddard, long-time television meteorologist in Cleveland, who has also written a book about weather in Northeast Ohio.

Our show was recorded on the anniversary of a major winter storm for Ohio in 1950 and Dr. Schmidlin tells us some of what happened. Dick was listening to a football game during that storm and remembers the incredible conditions of that storm. Dick referred to the storm as a winter hurricane.

Other discussions in this weekly podcast include topics like:

  • Some global warming news
  • Phoenix the drought is getting worse
  • Texas doing much better with dry weather
  • Some Thanksgiving Day forecasts
  • Snow covers 11 percent of the lower 48
  • 88 at Miami, -36 in Alaska
  • and more!
  • We get letters and our EMail Officer (EMO) Kevin gives us a rundown on what our listeners are writing about.

    From The Weather Center:

WeatherBrains 101: Last week it was the jet stream and this week our 101 episode tackles the triple point – that’s triple point, not triple play. But finding a meteorological definition to this term can be difficult.

TWIWH: Bill Murray looks back at the week of November 24th – even the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is not immune from the weather. Those large balloons require a lot of weather monitoring to keep events and event goers safe.

Listener SurveyListener Surveys: Okay, we continue to drive this topic into the ground, but we really do like to hear from you. Many thanks to everyone who has taken the time to fill out the Listener Survey. The survey takes just a minute or two to complete and provides us with an opportunity to learn where you are and hear your thoughts and comments on the show. Click here to take the survey.
