Our guest this episode is Jan Null from Golden Gate Weather Services, a company that provides weather studies for a variety of clients. Jan has a lot of experience in weather from the NWS plus San Francisco State University. He also does a column for the San Francisco newspaper, Examiner. Jan developed the Camelot Index for rating the best place to live based on weather factors.

Other discussions in this weekly podcast include topics like:

  • rain over much of Florida (early tropical disturbance)
  • four hurricane names retired
  • snow cover less than 3 percent
  • some 90s in the Dakotas
  • no slight risk for next three days
  • and more!
  • Our mail bag has always got something interesting for Kevin to bring out. A Canadian meteorologist wants to find work and was looking for job possibilities. Marble size hail gets a question and a rant. Giz Wiz LED hat gets a plug.

    From The Weather Center:

WeatherBrains 101: Meteorologists classify just about everything with some sort of scale – Fujita scale, Safir-Simpson Scale, etc. So how about a wind observation scale? This week the topic is the Beaufort scale, actually called the Beaufort Wind Force Scale.

TWIWH: Bill Murray looks back at the week of May 19th. One of the biggest developments for tornado warnings may have occurred during the week – in fact two of them.

Listener SurveyListener Surveys: Okay, we continue to drive this topic into the ground, but we really do like to hear from you. Many thanks to everyone who has taken the time to fill out the Listener Survey. The survey takes just a minute or two to complete and provides us with an opportunity to learn where you are and hear your thoughts and comments on the show. Click here to take the survey.
