Tough to get the Weather Brains crew together so about 50 percent of the gang is missing. JB mentions that hurricane season starts in about two weeks.

Vortex2 gets underway so we have a special recording of an introduction to the project. Vortex2 will cover a larger area with ten mobile radars to measure as many parameters as humanly possible. A new application is the use of unmanned aerial units to take readings in and around the storms.

Other discussions in this weekly podcast include topics like:

  • one person killed in northeast Missouri at Kirksville
  • large moderate risk area in the Central Plains
  • tornado watches across parts of Missouri and Illinois
  • 16 tornado reports today
  • 105 degrees at Laredo and 6 degrees at Barrow
  • and more!
  • Our mail bag has been getting some attention and Kevin puts it in perspective.

    From The Weather Center:

WeatherBrains 101: Weather is a global phenomenon, so this week we open the book on air masses. While there is really no fully accepted classification system, the Bergeron classification is the most widely used and you see reference to air mass types in discussions.

TWIWH: Bill Murray looks back at the week of May 12th. As you might expect at this time of year, tornadoes take center stage. But how about a tornado in Maine?

Listener SurveyListener Surveys: Okay, we continue to drive this topic into the ground, but we really do like to hear from you. Many thanks to everyone who has taken the time to fill out the Listener Survey. The survey takes just a minute or two to complete and provides us with an opportunity to learn where you are and hear your thoughts and comments on the show. Click here to take the survey.
