WeatherBrains 626: Everyone is a Big Wuss

WeatherBrains Episode 626 is now online (January 15, 2018). If you are crazy about weather, this is THE netcast audio program for you!

Joining us this evening are Mark Taylor and Dr. Brock Burghart from WeatherBell. Mark comes to us from Atlanta, GA, while Dr. Burghart is in Colorado.

We also have Kurt Korte from Surfline. He is lead forecaster at Surfline. Kurt is primarily an Atlantic forecaster. Having some dialogue on the forecast challenges of each basin could be interesting. A couple of other potential topics – Who Surfline is and what we do, the basics of wave forecasting, tools we use to forecast waves, what it means to be the official forecaster for the World Surf League, interesting real time wave events (the North Atlantic and North Pacific are both very active right now with storms/swells).

Other discussions in this weekly podcast include topics like:

WeatherBrains 101: Last week there was a huge brouhaha over the term bomb cyclone used to describe the huge winter storm that impacted the coast of the Northeast US. It even attracted the attention of the skit writers for the Late Show with Stephen Colbert. So we dive into what a bomb is and how they come about. Checkout the pick of the week from Professor Peters for a look at the humor over the use of the terminology.
