Tonight’s Guest WeatherBrain is a legend. He needs no introduction to any person who has read the text of more than a couple of severe weather watches written since 1975. Jack Hales recently retired after 46 years of Federal service including 36 years at the Storm Prediction center, formerly the National Severe Storms Forecast Center. During his 36 consecutive years as a SELS/SPC Lead Forecaster, Jack issued over 5500 tornado and severe thunderstorm watches nationwide since 1975. Jack was the presented the Department of Commerce Silver Medal along with six other meteorologists who collaborated in the forecast of the April 2, 1982, outbreak that successfully used the terms “High Risk” and “Particularly Dangerous Situation” (PDS Watch) for the first time.
Jack was born in Long Beach, CA, and like many current meteorologists became intensely interested in weather during grad school and followed up on his interested with a 46 year career. His first job with the Weather Bureau at the Seattle-Tacoma airport from 1967 to 1969.
Joining us as a guest panelist for this show is Tim Hedrick, Chief Meteorologist at Local 12, WKRC, CBS Cincinnati, OH.
