WeatherBrains 316: Disgusting Discussions

Tonight’s guest panelist is a producer for The Weather Channel in Atlanta. She formerly was a news producer for WESH-TV in Orlando, FL, and the Tampa Weather Examiner. She also worked at KPHO in Phoenix, AZ. She is a WeatherBrains alum, having appeared on show 211 on Feb 8, 2010. Andrea Butera, welcome back to the show!

This episode features an open discussion involving a tiered warning experiment, the question of formatting NWS products without caps, and the question of defining the severe weather threat in simple statistical terms to promote more action. He also recently joined the weather staff at KSFY in Sioux Falls as a weekend meteorologist and webmaster. Any other time, it would be a joy to have him on the show because of his excellent work, but it’s with a heavy heart that we speak with him tonight.

    Accomplished Storm Chaser and Severe Studios partner Andy Gabrielson was tragically killed in a traffic accident on the Turner Turnpike near Sapulpa OK Saturday afternoon. The driver that caused the accidents was driving on the wrong side of the interstate and crashed head on into Andy’s Tahoe. Authorities said they believed alcohol was a factor.

    Andy was a partner with Kory in Severe Studios, and Kory joins us tonight from his home in South Dakota.
