Dr. Chuck Doswell

Our guest on this landmark show is none other than the greatest meteorological legend on the planet – Dr. Charles (Chuck) A. Doswell III. Dr. Doswell is a prolific severe convective storm researcher, a noted photographer, and along with Leslie R. Lemon produced the concept of the supercell thunderstorm. Dr. Doswell was born in Elmhurst, IL, and resides with his wife, Vickie, in Norman, OK. Dr. Doswell has degrees in meteorology from University of Wisconsin (BS) and Oklahoma University (MS and PhD). He served a stint in the Army serving in Vietnam before being assigned to White Sands Missile Range where he worked on fog modeling.

After departing the Army in 1972 and earning his doctorate degree in 1976, he went to work as a researcher at the National Severe Storms Forecast Center (predecessor to the Storm Prediction Center). His research also took him to Boulder, CO, for four years before returning to Norman in 1986. He retired from Federal service in 2001 and joined the Cooperative Institute for Mesoscale Meteorological Studies (CIMMS). His research interest focuses on tornadoes and severe thunderstorms. He has many, many published papers, and Chuck is often considered outspoken on his opinions about weather and warnings. He also wears a unique hat!!

Other discussions in this weekly podcast include topics like:
