WeatherBrains Episode 137 is now online (September 8, 2008). If you are crazy about weather, this is THE netcast audio program for you!

This week we have a REAL brain joining us. Dr. Tim Coleman, research meteorologist at University of Alabama at Huntsville, joins the regular gang to add his 2.5 cents to the weekly netcast all about the weather. Of course, Dr. Tim may want to re-consider being a regular of this motley group but he certainly raises the intelligence level of the whole crew.

Discussions in this weekly podcast include topics like:

  • The tropics are a big topic with Ike and Hanna to discuss
  • Reality aspects of storm chasing from Dr. Tim
  • Going through a lock and dam in a 15-foot boat
  • Seasonal preferences among the gang
  • Deploying a mobile Doppler radar from UAH
  • Of course, some mention of global warming creeps into the show.
  • James Spann goes into the mail bag for this episode with an upfront apology. Then he reveals an email about global warming and religion. Could the email officer position be changing?

    From The Weather Center:

WeatherBrains 101: So what’s in a scale? Specifically, what is in the Saffir-Simpson scale? If you are a major weather enthusiast that follows tropical weather, then you probably know. But did you know the scale came about thanks to Hurricane Camille? This week the Professor looks at the scale used for hurricanes.

This Week in Weather History: Bill Murray takes a look at a hurricane that held the attention of the whole Gulf of Mexico in 1919.

Listener SurveyListener Surveys: Okay, we continue to drive this topic into the ground, but we really do like to hear from you.
