WeatherBrains 600: Hiding Behind a Hoodie

WeatherBrains Episode 600 is now online (July 17, 2017). If you are crazy about weather, this is THE netcast audio program for you!

Tonight’s Guest WeatherBrain is the recently selected Warning Coordination Meteorologist at the Storm Prediction Center. His Masters and Ph.D. in meteorology are from the University of Oklahoma. His undergraduate is from the University of Arkansas. He managed the VORTEX2 Operations Center and was a Program Co-Chair for the NWA Annual Meeting in Oklahoma City in 2015. Dr. Patrick Marsh, welcome to the show!

Dr. Marsh also appeared on episode 506 when he was serving as the co-chair of the 2015 NWA Annual Meeting in Oklahoma City.

Tonight’s Guest Panelist did such a good job on episode 598 that we just had to have her back again. She is a UCAR Project Scientist and Policy Advisor at NOAA. Kim Klockow, welcome back to WeatherBrains!

Other discussions in this weekly podcast include topics like:

  • Extremes: 124 at Death Valley, CA, and 32 at Meacham, OR
  • Tropical Storm Don formed in South Central Atlantic
  • Don likely to remain pretty far south
  • Still in a ridge west, trough east pattern
  • So very hot over the western US
  • Pattern forecast to change with ridge expanding east
  • Astronomy Outlook with Tony Rice
  • and more!

Our email bag officer is continuing to handle the incoming messages from our listeners.

From The Weather Center:

WeatherBrains 101: This 101 segment is brought to you by Rick Smith. Yup, that’s right. Rick himself was the inspiration behind the topic for this week. It has to do with spelling “L I G H T N I N G” and not any of the other ways that refer to other things with no relation to thunder. This one is educational but also a bit of a rant.

Listener SurveyListener Surveys: Okay, we continue to drive this topic into the ground, but we really do like to hear from you. Many thanks to everyone who has taken the time to fill out the Listener Survey. The survey takes just a minute or two to complete and provides us with an opportunity to learn where you are and hear your thoughts and comments on the show. Click here to take the survey.
