WeatherBrains 315: Organized Noise and Garbage

WeatherBrains Episode 315 is now online (February 7, 2012). If you are crazy about weather, this is THE netcast audio program for you!

Kory Hartman, Severe StudiosKory Hartman is the CEO at SevereStudios, a site that is familiar to everyone on this show. He also recently joined the weather staff at KSFY in Sioux Falls as a weekend meteorologist and webmaster. Any other time, it would be a joy to have him on the show because of his excellent work, but it’s with a heavy heart that we speak with him tonight.

Accomplished Storm Chaser and Severe Studios partner Andy Gabrielson was tragically killed in a traffic accident on the Turner Turnpike near Sapulpa OK Saturday afternoon. The driver that caused the accidents was driving on the wrong side of the interstate and crashed head on into Andy’s Tahoe. Authorities said they believed alcohol was a factor.

Andy was a partner with Kory in Severe Studios, and Kory joins us tonight from his home in South Dakota.

Other discussions in this weekly podcast include topics like:

  • About 26 percent of Lower 48 covered by snow
  • Extremes today -22 at Wisdom, MT, and 87 at MacDill AFB, Tampa, FL
  • Intense cold in Europe with hundreds of deaths
  • Extreme cold in Alaska backing off a bit
  • SPC has no outlooks for severe weather next two days
  • and more!
  • Our mail bag gets a lot of attention, so Kevin has his work cut out for him.

    From The Weather Center:

WeatherBrains 101: The professor ends his series on upper air observations with some interesting facts about these critical observations.

TWIWH: Bill Murray looks back at the week of February 8th. This week featured one of the coldest air masses on record.

Listener SurveyListener Surveys: Okay, we continue to drive this topic into the ground, but we really do like to hear from you. Many thanks to everyone who has taken the time to fill out the Listener Survey. The survey takes just a minute or two to complete and provides us with an opportunity to learn where you are and hear your thoughts and comments on the show. Click here to take the survey.
